Green Cleaning Items on Channel 36
Here are my favorite inexpesive green cleaning agents :)
A fantastic scrubber! I love using baking soda to clean bathtubs. If you make a paste with baking soda and a little bit of water you have a perfect green replacement to scrub your tub with -- it really grabs all that soap scum and lifts it right out. I use about 1/4 to 1/2 of cup of baking soda to clean my tub with and I use about 2 tablespoons for the kitchen sink.
I also really love vinegar for cleaning hardwood floors. Just a splash of vinegar in a bucket of water does a great job. And hardwood floors do not like build up so this is the perfect way to keep them healthy.
And if you love coffee like I do then you have to try running some vinegar water through your autromatic pot occassionally. I grew up watching my Mom do this trick and it really does make a difference in the flavor of your coffee. I do mine about 1 time a month and I use 1 cup of vinegar to a full pot of water for a 12 cup machine. Take it once step further and poor that hot pot of vinegar water right over that baking soda scrubbed kitchen sink and you will have knocked out two birds with one stone -- so to speak.
Out of all my cleaning supplies --this is my very favorite thing to use. Essential oils have amazing properties. On the cleaning front many are antiviral, antibacterial and antimicrobial.
Lemon essential oil is a fantastic pick for any environment. It has a light, pleasant and uplifting scent that is shown in studies to enhance focus, improve mental clarity and elicit a happy mood. By mixing a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil into a solution of vinegar and water you have a perfect all purpose cleaner for pennies on the dollar of other fake Lemon cleaners.
I mix 4-10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil into 2 cups of water and 1/4 - 1/2 cup of vinegar to make my version of this spray. If you like a stronger Lemon scent you could go up to about 15 or 20 drops of Essential Oil. And don't worry about the vinegar scent it evaporates in a few moments.
